Four New Zelda Amiibo Announced

Long time no see! Understandably, there’s been a bit of a lull in Zelda news since this year’s overwhelming E3. That silence ends today, though.

During this morning’s Nintendo Direct, Reggie himself made a handful of Zelda announcements. Perhaps the most surprising was the unveiling of four new amiibo, all of which will be compatible with Breath of the Wild: eight-bit Link, Ocarina of Time Link, and special Wind Waker variants of Toon Link and Zelda.

Wolf Link Amiibo Unlocks New Weapons for Midna in Hyrule Warriors Legends

The latest Hyrule Warriors Legends trailer sheds some light on the game’s amiibo functionality. The footage suggests that each Zelda series figure unlocks an enhanced weapon for its respective character. For example, the Link amiibo gives the Hylian Hero the power gloves, chain chomp and all.

The trailer reveals that the Wolf Link amiibo is compatible, too. It will unlock weapons for both Midna and Twili Midna. Take a look after the jump.

Final Twilight Princess Retrospective Episode Drops Zelda U Hint

Nintendo released the final episode in its Twilight Princess Retrospective series earlier today.

This time around, the team discusses some of the HD remake’s new features, including the Wolf Link-Midna amiibo and the Cave of Shadows. Assistant director Tomomi Sano notes that she received a ton of requests for a figure based on the iconic duo. As a fan of the mischievous imp herself, Sano championed the idea of a Midna amiibo.

Wolf Link-Midna Amiibo Compatible With Super Mario Maker

Wolf Link and Midna are the latest characters to join Super Mario Maker’s ever-expanding roster. Once Twilight Princess HD launches on March 4, fans can use the duo’s amiibo to unlock a playable sprite. The folks at GameXplain recently released a video of the characters in action.
